Elite Care is a company that creates and manages Elder Care facilities in Oregon. Their revolutionary philosophy of care is paving the way for the future of elder care. It's the kind of place you would recommend to your own grandparents.

They had a rudimentary website that was not easy for the staff to update with content. We proposed a new system for them that would not only be easy to manage, but built specifically to their needs, and documented well for even the most novice of content editors to navigate.

Main Features Include :
* unobtrusive "in context" links to edit content and access custom help documentation
* custom "fieldgroup-page" module to present multiple "pages" for a single node's content
* custom "secondary menu" and many other blocks
* custom theme developed from PDF mockups (layed out in photoshop, and coded by hand)

Cyrus Mejia is a nationally known artist, with a large portfolio of paintings and installations. He needed a website portfolio to highlight his work, keep a blog and calendar of events, and sell or promote prints, originals, and related products. He wanted all of this with a focus on aesthetics to match his own artistic quality, and to be easy to update. He showed me some sites he liked the look of, and what features he most needed, and we got straight to work. The bulk of work that went into this project was on theme development, with plenty of template developement to harmonize the user experience.

Organic Athlete is a national level non-profit organization with an active membership base of 1000+. They needed an integrated website and CRM system to enable them to keep track of all their members, allow new members to join online, and empower existing members to collaborate on projects. They were using a number of unconnected technologies to fill these (and many more) needs, but not very well. They asked me to create a Drupal website and connect it to their existing CiviCRM database.

Working cosely with Bradley Saul, the founder of OA, we ended up creating two "multisite" connected Drupal sites, with single sign-on between the two. The main site is based around the "OrganicGroups" drupal module, and allows the members to post blogs, and stay in touch with each other. The second site is just a wrapper for the CRM system. This "multisite" system will allow them to grow their needs in the furture (forums, shopping, ect...) all using the familiar Drupal system , but without compromising the existing "established" pieces. For such a constantly evolving organization (as many non-profits can be) this is a good future-proof architecture.

Laura Allen is a lawyer and an animal rights activist. She wanted to build a site to educate people about local and international animal law issues, but she had no idea where to begin. She contacted me for ideas and inspiration.

After telling me all her wishes and dreams, we played with a few options. Communicating by email phone, and in person for weeks, fine tuning the concept of what it was we were to build and how to do it, we decided to build the site with Drupal. The website offers online Law references for local areas, articles on current issues, newsletter subscriptions, and user comments ... oh, and an area for donations too. After defining our needs, the website was built pretty quickly.

Along with customizing the Drupal architecture, I developed a custom logo for the website, and printed material. I also customized the Drupal theme to match the logo.

Static HTML

Ty Markham runs a small Bead and Breakfast near Capitol Reef, in the middle of Utah. She uses Adobe Contribute to manage her website content, but the original site had been designed (poorly) by a young college student. She needed a fresh look, and asked if I could help.

Not only did I revamp the look of her site, (new layout, color scheme, header graphics, ect...) but I also made the file structure easier for her to manage with the tools she has, and added new features to her site. I integrated Google Maps to show her visitors what's in the area. I also created an image gallery that she could easily update, without needing to resize her images and create individual pages. All this, while keeping in the static HTML format.

Steven Prussack contacted me in summer of 2006, because he had needed a website to host his bi-monthly podcast. His primary concern was to move away from the hosted service he was using, to a more flexible system, where he could have multiple podcasts, premium subscriptions, a related blog, and an online store.

After much review of his needs we settled on the Wordpress system to build his site on, with a custom theme and logo. He already had these "fruity" characters made for him by another artist, and wanted to incorporate them into the website design. I added headphones and other paraphernalia to these charachters, and created a custom logo and "carrot cast" emblem for the site. I then created a "tabbed" interface for the shows, and fine tuned all the wordpress pluggins to look nice with the custom theme.

Alas, my design is no longer in service at his website (rawveganradio.com) but bellow you will find a few static pages that illustrate the methods used. BE AWARE, the links in these pages will not take you anywhere.

Lite Intitiatives is a small, mostly volunteer run, non-profit organization in Sonoma County California. Like many non-profits, they are an "umbrella" organization under which a few other programs run. They needed a web presence to tell people about their different programs and how to get plugged in.

They asked me to create a website, and logos for them. I ended up choosing the Joomla content management system for their website, because of it's "out of the box" readiness. I set them up with a pre-made template, and designed some custom logos to go with it.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the country. In 2002, they were just starting to get serious about their web presence. I approached them with the idea of creating a Virtual Tour. Inspired by the Sydney Opera House virtual tour, I told them that I could provide a similar experience. After months of reviewing mock-ups, illustrating icons, on-site photo shoots, and authoring in Flash, we ended up with this virtual tour.

As my first paid website gig, it's showing it's age. But I still think it's a pretty awesome accomplishment. I created all the animations, illustrations, and interactivity myself. I also designed the information and data architecture. Unless noted, all photography is my own. It's no longer on their live website, but you can see it archived here:
